Andy Taylor has been working as a cameraman for over 35 years and is one of Australia’s most experienced documentary cinematographers. He was granted accreditation by the Australian Cinematographers Society in 2002 – the highest honour that is bestowed on an ACS member. Andy has won 26 ACS Awards and 5 prestigious Walkley Awards for Cinematography. He works as a freelance cinematographer based in Sydney Australia filming: documentaries, network promotions, travel, corporate branding and advertising.

With three Netflix approved Canon Cinema EOS 4K cameras and the new Freefly Wave super high-speed 4K camera, plus a selection of cine-prime and zoom lenses, Andy has the equipment, skills and ability to cover anything that is thrown at him. He owns several tripods, gimbals and other camera support and monitoring options, plus various lighting solutions, drones, underwater housings plus stills photography equipment.


Andy has an easy going and positive attitude, he is reliable and capable of working collaboratively, quickly and efficiently with all creatives, production staff, presenters and talent. He is reliable and consistently delivers beautifully lit and composed cinematic pictures with the highest production standards. Andy is capable of working remotely, without direction as a shooter/producer. Andy’s wife Jo works as his sound recordist with a complete field sound kit, she is also a professional Film & TV makeup artist and production coordinator.


For 8 years (2009-2017) Andy was a senior staff cinematographer at 60 Minutes Australia, filming stories covering every genre, including: human interest, true crime, wildlife and adventure, science and medical, politics, celebrity profiles, wars, riots, civil unrest and natural disasters.


Previously he held the position of Senior Cameraman at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation where he worked for 25 years based in Sydney, London and Moscow. His ABC shooting credits include 96 complete episodes of Four Corners, plus stories for Foreign Correspondent, Australian Story and Landline. Andy has also worked for several foreign broadcasters including: National Geographic, Dateline NBC, the BBC and CNN.


Andy has worked with Australia’s most respected journalists and presenters including: Ray Martin, Chris Masters, Liz Hayes, Andrew Denton, Caro Meldrum-Hanna, Sarah Ferguson, Leigh Sales, Tony Jones, Mark Colvin, Michael Usher, Tara Brown, Ally Langdon, Karl Stefanovic and Peter Overton. Some of the celebrity profiles and interviews Andy has shot include Bruce Springsteen, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Pink, The Foo Fighters, Ricky Martin, Tom Jones, Kylie Minogue, Jennifer Lopez, Will Ferrell, Bill Murray, Leonard DiCaprio, Cher, Nicole Kidman, Olivia Newton-John, Delta Goodrem, Human Nature, Mick Fanning, Sir Richard Branson and Sir David Attenborough.


Andy is a CASA certified drone pilot, holding a remote pilots license and operators’ certificate (RePL & ReOC), He has been flying drones since 2013, recently shooting aerial work for NSW Local and State Governments, Channel Nine,

ABC-TV, Surf Life Saving Australia and The Australian War Memorial. Andy currently owns and operates a DJI Inspire 2 with the X5s camera, Cine SSD with Pro-Res license, plus a Mavic 2 Pro with a smart controller. Andy is also a PADI Advanced scuba diver, with Nauticam underwater housing and lights for the Canon 5DMkiv.


His work has taken him to over 110 countries and territories, filming royalty, rock stars, politicians, warlords and terrorists, often in the most amazing locations around the world: USA (35 states), Canada, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Australia and the Pacific. Andy has covered many wars and conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel, Gaza, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Rwanda, Zaire, Angola, the Balkans, East Timor, PNG, Northern Ireland, North Korea and the former Soviet Union, as well as major natural disasters and earthquakes in Fukushima, Haiti and the 2004 boxing day tsunami in Ache.


Andy is no stranger to difficult and dangerous situations, he has been shot at, shelled, ambushed and attacked many times, arrested by the KGB, kidnapped by the IRA and confirmed dead in a plane that was shot down over the Black Sea. Exotic assignments Andy has filmed include scuba diving with Leopard Seals in Antarctica, Bull Sharks in Fiji, Crocodiles in the Okavango Delta, Great Whites in Port Lincoln and wreck diving in Palau and the Bikini Atoll nuclear test site. He has trekked through the most remote parts of the Amazon Rainforest, the Kokoda Track, filmed over the rim of active volcanos in Vanuatu, climbed to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and Everest Base Camp. He’s been on safari in the Masai Mara, explored the incredible Crystal Caves of Mexico and the smugglers tunnels below the Gaza Strip, raided the Brazilian Favela’s with the anti-kidnapping police, boarded people smuggling boats off Indonesia with the Australian Navy and he spent three months in the Middle East covering the 1991 Gulf War.
